And because you can only feel beautiful with a clear conscience, we pay special attention to what’s inside our products. That’s why our products contain only ingredients that don’t affect your health and make sure that no animals are harmed within the process. So that you can feel good, and you can carry your inner beauty to the outside—every day.

We are a vegan and cruelty-free brand

Did you know we are certified by PETA and the Leaping Bunny program for being a vegan and cruelty-free brand? We are especially proud of this because we care about the planet and all living beings on it. We are convinced that everyone deserves to live a happy life—animals included.

When we started heroine.nyc this was one of our conditions: Neither our products nor the ingredients we use to make them are tested on animals, and all our nail polish colors are free from animal-derived ingredients. This means that—all our products are and have always been vegan and cruelty-free—and they always will be. You can count on that!

It’s important to us to provide a safe product for you and to be able to stand behind it! Therefore, we took special care when creating our nail polishes, so besides being vegan and cruelty-free, they don’t contain any toxic ingredients that may affect your health.

9-free because we care

Of course, you can’t make nail polish without synthetic ingredients, but we made sure to eliminate the ones known to be bad for you. So, all our nail polish colors are 9-free. This means they are free from the 9 toxic ingredients that many conventional nail polish brands traditionally use:

Free from Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is most prominently used to embalm human or animal tissue in morgues or by taxidermists. It is also a human carcinogen that can cause all kinds of cancer with repeated or prolonged exposure in the air or on the skin. So, we decided to keep it out of our products.

Free from Formaldehyde Resin

Formaldehyde resin is a by-product of formaldehyde, and early studies have shown it to cause allergic reactions, skin irritations, discoloration, and loss of nerve sensation. No worries: you won’t find any formaldehyde resin in our products.

Free from Toluene

heroine.nyc nail polish is free from toluene because repeated or prolonged exposure to this chemical can result in decreased brain functionality, neurological damage, respiratory problems, nausea, and hearing loss. It is also highly dangerous for pregnant people and can cause abnormal fetal development.

Free from DBP

DBP is short for dibutyl phthalate and, alongside many other bad effects, can impair fetal development in pregnant people, cause organ damage, and early onset menopause. So, there’s no place for this stuff in our products.

Free from Camphor

Camphor is a powder that initially came from the bark and wood of the camphor tree. Today, most camphor is synthetic. However, we decided to keep it out of our nail polishes because it can cause allergic reactions, severe skin irritations, headaches, nausea, and dizziness.

Free from Xylene

Xylene is a known allergen, possible carcinogen, and a central nervous system depressant. It can cause skin, eye, nose, and throat irritation alongside many other harmful effects—so you should definitely not wear it on your nails.

Free from Ethyl Tosylamide

Ethyl tosylamide has already been banned from personal care products in the EU because of its antibiotic properties and concerns over its antibiotic resistance. Therefore, you won’t find anyethyl tosylamide in our nail polishes.

Free from Triphenyl Phosphate

Triphenyl phosphate, also known as TPHP, has been linked to infertility, abnormal fetal development, hormonal imbalances, and several types of cancer. Therefore, all our nail polishes are 100% TPHP-free.

Free from Parabens

Research has linked parabens in beauty products with breast cancer in women—so it is an ingredient to avoid in any case!
